Kakishibu is a Japanese natural dyeing process. The rich amber/orange/brown colour is achieved by dyeing the fabric in a mixture of iron rich water and rotting persimmons. The tannins from the fruit oxidize in the presence of the iron achieving a truly unique shade of brown. With wear and washing, the dye will continue to oxidize resulting in a darker colour over time.
